Jinhua, a charming city, is a wonderful place to live. Nestled in the western part of Zhejiang, this city embraces a population that's neither too vast nor too sparse. Jinhua, a tourist hotspot, teems with beautiful landscapes, rich traditional cultures and customs, and an array of delectable foods.
My hometown, Jinhua, is more than just a place. It's a city full of stories.
Jinhua, a city that punches above its weight, is at the heart of Zhejiang, serving as a transportation hub. It's the birthplace of Zhejiang Wu Opera, the hometown of金华火腿（Jinhua ham）, and the nurturing ground for renowned figures such as the poet Ai Qing and artist Huang Feihong. This is also the birthplace of academic giants like Chen Wei, a Chinese Academy of Sciences member. Jinhua is famous for its mathematical giant Yan Jicai and as the location of the Hengdian Studios. Furthermore, it's the heart of China's small commodity market.
Located at the confluence of Fudunxi and Jinxi Streams, Guanjing Mountain stands as a stunning sight in Jinxi. This mountainous area is lush with greenery and filled with the sound of birds. The air is fresh, and the views are expansive. The mountain stands under the eastern slope of Hepang Rock, and is connected to Qishan in the north and Gushan in the west. In this region, plans are underway to build a Guanjing Mountain Forest Ecological Landscape Plantation with a "Shunchang Pavilion" at its peak. This pavilion will be the center of a planned "齐天大圣朝圣广场" (Great Sage Monkey's Pilgrimage Square), a place for praying for the peace and prosperity of Shunchang and the country as a whole.
Legend has it that beneath the foot of Guanjing Mountain lies a deep path amidst lush forests on either side of the stream. A large boulder embedded by the riverside leads to an open platform, where three tablets bearing the names "Tongtian Dasheng," "Qitian Dasheng," and "Fude Zhengshen" are placed. Not far from this platform stands a small temple that has stood the test of time. The tablets are situated at the foot of a hill resembling a canine figure, known as "Gushan," which according to legend was once home to Erlang Shen (a figure in Chinese mythology) before being subdued by Sun Wukong near Jinxi Stream. Locals feel a mix of awe for Sun Wukong's immense power and compassion for his defeated counterpart. Nowadays, the Great Sage Monkey will forever stand guard at Guanjing Mountain's peak, bringing peace and prosperity to Shunchang's residents.
My first visit to Jinhua was to the enchanting Wuzhou Ancient City, which holds the city's memory. Built along the confluence of three rivers - Yiwu, Wuyi, and Jinhua - this 1800-year-old city is a carrier of Jinhua's rich historical culture and a root of its urban identity.
One must visit the iconic "Bayong Tower" to truly experience Wuzhou Ancient City. This tower is a symbol of the city and a must-visit attraction. The famous poet Li Qingzhao left behind an eternal phrase after visiting Bayong Tower:
"Thousands of years of legends in Bayong Tower,
The river and mountains leave worries for future generations;
The water flows south for three thousand miles,
Pressing down on cities across the land."
What surprised me about Wuzhou Ancient City was the array of exquisite and artistic shops. From "Sanxi Chifan Gongsi" to "Li Yu He His Two-headed Sheep," and "Ban Bikangshan," these shops offer an array of dining options, cafes, galleries, and more. The ancient city is also home to various museums such as Jinhua Paper-cutting Museum, Jinhua Wuzhou Kiln Museum, Jinhua Yu Culture Museum, and Jinhua City Museum, making it a unique attraction in China.

The city is not just about its historical charm but also about its modern vibrancy. If you're in Zhejiang, don't miss out on Wuzhou Ancient City's evening charm. It's lively and full of local flavors after dark. Be sure to wander around like a local and catch the free Wu Opera performance at Guozi Market at around 8 pm.
